Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene turned out to be a non-event for most of us here in Boston. But, that didn’t mean I wasn’t worried.

On the Friday before the storm was about to hit I left work early with the full intention of pulling out the boat. When I arrived at Admiral’s Hill Marina I immediately realized that I had nothing to worry about. The marina was full of boats. Everyone from the EPA and commercial fishing boats were taking shelter in Boston’s ‘Hurricane Cove’.

In the end, all I did was remove the top, clear the deck, tie a few more lines, and added a couple of new fenders.

The best part of the hurricane was getting to see and learn about a family from Germany that have been sailing their Lagoon 500 catamaran for 2.5 years. The boat was truly incredible. If you’re interested in sailing around the world, like I am, you should check out their blog.
