Slow Going in 2011

Slow Going in 2011

The 2011 season of the Sunset Bandit has been a very trying one. The season started a bit dodgy (broken convertible top pole), but with the help of several people (Joshua, my father, Caroline, James, McLlelan Brothers of Everett, and Marine Canvas of Winthrop) things started to look up.

The list of  new and improved things on the Bandit is quite lengthy. It was a busy spring (if you can even call what we have here in Boston spring)

  • new stereo
  • new fishfinder/gps
  • new bilge pump and wiring
  • new cushions in the cuddy
  • new vhf radio
  • refinished every piece of wood on the bandit
  • new anchor
  • new convertible top poles
  • new impeller
  • new spark plugs
  • new thermostats
  • new horn
  • fixed ladder platform
  • new transom drain plugs

So…how did it all turn out?  Well, after one outing and 4 days in the water I realized there was a slow leak somewhere in the boat and out it came. While it was out, I had the marina repaint the bottom. I had hoped for brown, but instead got royal blue. Not the end of the world. After 2 weeks of steady rain wherein no work was being done on the boat, they guys at the marina finally replaced the main drain plug on the boat and patched a small screw hole.  Finally, the boat was ready for a second launching.
